From thrift shelf to garden
How they’re made
-
The hunt
Carla digs through thrift stores, estate sales and antique malls for cups with character — bone china, toile, vintage roses, the occasional leopard.
-
The build
The saucer is drilled and the cup is set at a tilt, so seed spills out onto the saucer like a little tea party for the birds.
-
The finishing
Gold or black chain, an S-hook for hanging, and often a vintage spoon that makes the perfect perch.
Caring for your feeder
- Hang it from a sturdy branch, porch hook or shepherd’s hook, out of reach of cats.
- Fill the saucer with a small scoop of seed — about ½ cup is plenty.
- Rinse it with warm soapy water every week or two to keep birds healthy.
- Bring it in during hard freezes — porcelain doesn’t love ice.
Hi, I’m Carla
Pretty things deserve a second life.
I’ve always been the one at the thrift store holding a single teacup up to the light. These cups were made to be admired, and too many end up sitting alone on a shelf without their saucers.
So I started giving them a new job. Every feeder I make is a cup I fell in love with, and I love knowing it’ll end up in someone’s garden with cardinals and chickadees stopping by for breakfast.

Good questions
Before you buy
Still deciding?
See all the cupsHow do I buy one?
Open a feeder in the shop and press Buy now. Payment is by Venmo or Zelle, so it happens in your own banking app — no card details are ever typed into this site.
How is it shipped?
Ships in 2–3 business days, wrapped in bubble wrap and double-boxed. You’ll get a tracking number by email as soon as it’s on its way.
What if it arrives broken?
Send a photo of the damage within 48 hours of delivery and it’ll be made right with a replacement or a full refund.
What birds will it attract?
Small perching birds love them — chickadees, finches, titmice, sparrows and cardinals. A mixed seed or black oil sunflower seed works well.
Can it stay outside all year?
It’s happiest outside spring through fall. Bring it in during freezing weather, since water trapped in porcelain can crack it.
